About This Video

In this quick lesson I’m breaking down how to actually use a metronome and, more importantly, how to count with it. A lot of guys hear the click and just kind of… hope for the best. So I start with the basics: the click as quarter notes (1 2 3 4), then I show you how that translates to picking on the guitar so you can lock your hands to the pulse instead of guessing. From there I build it up: eighth notes (1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and), eighth-note triplets, and then 16th notes (1 e and a 2 e and a 3 e and a 4 e and a). The whole point is understanding how you’re subdividing the beat, not just playing faster. Then I show you how to practice it with something simple like a scale shape (I demo a C major idea), looping it as eighths, then triplets, then 16ths. Once that’s comfortable across your shapes, you mix subdivisions and even add rests in between to tighten your timing. No fluff—just the stuff that makes your metal rhythm and shred way cleaner.
