About This Video

What’s up, dudes? In this quick lesson I’m basically yelling at you (with love) to stop being lazy about intervals. If you’re running scales but you’re not actually labeling what you’re playing, you’re leaving a ton of progress on the table. I show you how I want you practicing: count the degrees straight up—1 2 3 4 5 6 7—then do it again across the neck, and do it for minor too (1 2 b3 4 5 b6 b7). The whole point is to burn the interval numbers into your brain while your fingers are moving. I also give you a few “cheat sheet” fragments so you can map intervals fast: the classic 1-4-5 idea, root-to-octave shapes (and how that relates to power chords), and a super important one—major third vs minor third movement. I show it across strings and on one string so you can see it multiple ways. And yeah, I call out modes too: I’m talking parallel modes here, not that diatonic-only autopilot stuff—if you want the deep dive, I’ve got modal lessons and a longer video on how people play modes wrong. Takeaway: memorize intervals inside scales and chords, in little chunks, until it’s automatic.
