About This Video

In this video, I show you how to fade to black in Final Cut Pro step by step, and I keep it simple because there are really two common situations you’ll run into. First, if you want a fade to black at the end of your video, I walk you through opening the Transition Browser, searching for “Cross Dissolve,” and dragging that transition right onto the end of your clip. When you play it back, you’ll see it naturally fades out to black for a clean, professional ending. Second, if you want a fade to black in the middle of your timeline (like between two clips), I show you the exact method I use: select the end (or beginning) of the clip where you want the fade, then search for “Fade to Color” and drop it where you need it. From there, you can click the transition and use the Inspector to confirm the color is set to black (it is by default), or change it if you ever want a different look. I also show you how to extend the transition so you can increase or decrease the fade timing until it feels right.
