In this video, I walk you through how to delete a library in Final Cut Pro step by step, so you can keep your editing setup clean and clutter-free in 2026. I start by having you launch Final Cut Pro, then head to Final Cut Pro (top left on Mac) and open Settings. The big thing I want you to check is your Import settings—specifically that your files are set to “Copy to library storage location.” If you leave files in place, your media can end up scattered all over your drive, which makes deleting a library messy. Once your settings are good, I show you how to open the Library sidebar, right-click the library (your main folder/directory), and choose “Reveal in Finder.” After that, I close Final Cut Pro completely and delete the library folder in Finder—plus the Final Cut Backups—by moving them to the Trash and then emptying it. When you reopen Final Cut Pro, you’ll see it load up empty and create a fresh “Untitled” library. That’s the full process I use whenever I want to wipe out an old library and start clean.
