About This Video

In this video, I’ll show you how to add keyframes in Final Cut Pro step by step, and I keep it super simple so you can follow along whether you’re brand new or you’ve been editing for a while. First, I load up my project, then I collapse the view a bit so we can clearly see what’s happening on the timeline. You’ll notice your video and audio are usually merged together as one clip, and that’s totally fine for getting started. From there, I click the clip I want to adjust, head over to the far right where the audio icon is, and look for the volume section. On the far right of that volume line, there’s a target-looking icon—this is what I use to add a keyframe. The main thing is you need to move your cursor to the exact spot where you want the keyframe first, then click that icon to drop the dot. After that, you can drag and move the keyframe wherever you want. If you want to see and control the keyframes even more clearly, I also show you how to right-click the clip and detach the audio from the video. Once it’s detached, you can see the audio track on its own and manipulate your keyframes way easier. That’s the full workflow I use to quickly add and adjust audio keyframes in Final Cut Pro.
