About This Video

In this video, I show you how to add effects in Final Cut Pro step by step. The first thing I do is load up the project you want to work on, then I find the exact clip I want to apply an effect to and select it (you’ll see the border highlight so you know it’s active). From there, I go to the far right of the editing panel and click the icon with two overlapping squares to open the Effects Browser—this is where all your video effects live. Once you’re in the Effects Browser, I pick an effect (I use the “50s TV” effect as an example) and you can preview how it looks right away. To actually apply it, I drag the effect and drop it directly onto the clip in the timeline. After that, I show you how to tweak it in the Video Inspector on the right—where you can toggle the effect on/off and adjust how strong the effect is. I also cover audio effects the same way: you drag and drop them onto the clip, then tweak them in the Sound Inspector instead of the Video Inspector. I open up the Audio Enhancement section so you can see the effect you added, toggle it, and choose presets. That’s the full workflow I use to add and control both video and audio effects in Final Cut Pro.
