In this stream/video, I start off doing what I always do: scrolling through Reddit builds and reacting to whatever cursed (or clean) stuff people are posting. You’ll hear my usual hot takes—like me not wanting to pay £150 for a GMK set that looks like a clone, me side-eyeing ceramic keycaps (I think they can look great, but “worth it” is a different question), and me slowly admitting I’m starting to understand the 60% hype. There were some genuinely beautiful boards in there (Neo65 Core Plus, Zoom builds), and also some “what the hell is this” moments. Then we get into the main event: the official Discord branded keyboard. And yeah… WHAT ARE YOU DOING DISCORD??? It’s basically a plastic TKL that’s priced like it’s something special, but the build choices are rough: steel plate, tray mount vibes, barely any internal dampening (I added my own foam), and the power switch placement is just annoying when you’re trying to reassemble it. Mine came with clicky Kailh switches—disgusting—so I swap them for EMaker Wisteria to chase a more creamy sound, tape mod it (I usually do 3 layers), add foam, and even do a little jelly tape in the spacebar. It ends up better than stock, but the takeaway is simple: branded boards from big names are often all hype, and for $100–$150 you can get way better value if you know where to look.
