TRYING FOAMLESS build for the LAST TIME

About This Video

In this stream I tried a foamless build “for the last time”… and yeah, it got messy fast. I rebuilt this board, somehow made it worse, and decided to rip everything apart again: keycaps off, switches out, plate swap, the whole deal. The goal was simple (in theory): get that clean clack—not hollow clack, not echo clack—like the premium boards, but in a more budget-friendly way. I also swapped from a linear to a tactile to spice things up, using the Echo Cream Purple Pro, and I debated plate choice (FR4 vs PC) while complaining about flex cuts like I always do. The big problem: this keyboard is basically a flex-cut festival. The FR4 plate has flex cuts, the PCB has per-key flex cuts, and the whole thing bounces like crazy. Foamless on a setup like that just made the sound thin and echoey, and tape mod without foam wasn’t saving it either (without tape it got even worse). So I caved—case foam back in, PE/IXPE back in—because at the end of the day I’d rather have a fuller, better-sounding board than force a “foamless” label. Takeaway: foamless can work, but not on every board, and too many flex cuts can absolutely ruin the clack you’re chasing.
