Lubing my new FAVOURITE switches

About This Video

In this stream I’m lubing 34 switches of the HMX Retro J Tactile—aka my new favourite switch… even before I’ve put it in a board. I’ve been hyping these up for a week because they feel and sound really close to the Echo Cilantro (my usual #1), but the Retro J is more tactile, the bump is sharper, and the overall sound is a bit brighter. It’s a D-bump tactile, and after trying that style, I’m kind of obsessed—this is the type of tactile I actually want to use daily. I go through my usual lube routine: I’m bag-lubing the springs with Krytox 105 (yes, the same dusty bag I keep reusing because it’s already loaded with lube), and I’m hand-lubing the housings/stems to clean things up and push the sound where I want it. These switches are a little pre-lubed stock and I didn’t hear much spring ping, but I still lube everything because, for me, it just sounds better. I also talk about what I’m building next (a DIY case), why I’ve been experimenting with foamless builds, and how I’m trying to review stuff only after using it for at least a week.
