Hi everyone—Sandy here (Kentucky Krafter)! In this video I’m playing around with heat embossing for junk journals, because I finally pulled out my new Ranger heat tool and wanted to test it with y’all. I use a clear embossing ink (so the embossing powder color really shows through) and I stamp on plain white/ivory cardstock plus some of my inky and watercolor backgrounds. I’m not an expert by any means, but I walk you through the basics, what to watch for as the powder melts, and a few little tricks that help—like moving the heat tool around the whole image first, then working outward once you see it start to melt. We try several embossing powders (including glitter and neon), and I share what I’m noticing as I go—like closing lids so you don’t blow powder everywhere, using a tray or paper to pour the extra back in, and holding the piece up to the light so you can actually see the “transforming” as it melts. Then I show you what to do with an embossed image by turning my adorable bunny stamp into a quick pocket: trimming it down, notching it, inking edges, adding a little stamping in the background, and finishing it off with a simple cluster (lace, label, button, and a staple). It’s a super easy way to jazz up tags and pockets and get you motivated to try embossing in your own journals.
