Hi everyone — in this video I’m wrapping up my Spring Retro Journal series and showing you the little bits I did off-camera. I had a bit of a stomach bug, so I wasn’t up for filming, but I still got to fiddling in the journal. I pulled pages from a couple of nature books (Wild Flowers of North America and an instant guide to butterflies) and used them for decorating — they’re perfect for tags, pockets, and fussy cutting. I used to absolutely hate fussy cutting (and I still don’t love it), but I’m getting more used to it, and those butterflies add such a fun little touch. The main part of today is a detailed 5-hole pamphlet stitch tutorial to bind your signature into the cover. This journal is a little bit chunky, so I wanted something nice and secure. I show you how I clip everything in place, how I mark and poke the five holes (center, top, bottom, and the two “in-between” holes), and the exact threading path so everything stays tight. I also share little tips for working with a puffy cover, keeping your tension even, and tying off so one thread sits on each side before you double-knot. If you’ve only done a 3-hole pamphlet stitch, this is a great next step for adding structure and sturdiness.
