Today I’m taking you along for a real homeschool morning routine as a mom of four—homeschooling my 2nd grader and kindergartener while also juggling my 2-year-old and 9-month-old. We started the day doing something that just filled my cup: we ran out early to grab local farm cinnamon rolls (breakfast of champions), and then we came home and jumped right into school. We began with poetry (Where the Sidewalk Ends), and then I tried to time our focused work around Harper’s first nap… which, as you’ll see, doesn’t always go perfectly. I show you exactly what we’re using and how it looks in real life: Riley working through The Good and the Beautiful math (mixed numbers, fractions, mental math) plus language arts (reading comprehension, narration, creative assignments), and then spelling with Spelling You See (poems, dictation, handwriting). Then I move over to Jackson’s kindergarten math and language arts, using manipulatives for number bonds and phonics/reading practice (and yes—lots of interruptions, lots of “hot mess” moments, and a lot of patience I don’t naturally have). We finish the morning with independent work, wiggle-car energy outside, and I share some of our faith-based extras like devotional reading and first communion prep (Act of Contrition and Eucharistic miracles).
