I will never get over a good thrift haul, and this Goodwill trip was one of those “I scored like I did” kind of days. I had a couple hours to myself (Joe stayed home with the kids), and I just went in with my usual mindset: is there something here I’ve been needing for our home and our homeschool? I’m always hunting for books—especially solid reference books—so I grabbed a little board book for Sean, an Atlas of the World (because an atlas is just a great thing to have when we’re doing geography or reading stories set in other countries), plus some really beautiful history and nature books like Explorers and Traders and a reptiles book for my little backyard-lizard-catchers. The best book find was a giant Lego book in perfect condition for $1.99 (I’m gifting it to Jackson), and the most meaningful find was a My Catholic Children’s Bible that felt like it was just sitting there waiting for me. It’s gorgeous, story-form Scripture, and it even has prayers like the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, and Grace Before Meals—so I’m thinking about saving it for Riley’s First Communion. I also grabbed thrifted church/event pieces for the kids (dress shoes for Sean, Nike Air Force Ones for Jackson, button-downs, and sweet dresses for the girls) and a few comfy, feminine spring/summer dresses for me—more cotton/linen-y things I actually reach for while I’m schooling the kids, playing outside, and living my “make sourdough bread in a flowy dress” dreams.
