In this afternoon homeschool day in the life, I’m taking you along for that “sweet spot” of the day when the littles are napping and I can lean into the fun enrichment with my bigger kids (my 2nd grader and kindergartener). We already knocked out our core work earlier, so this is when we do tea time, good books, and conversation. We read The Giving Tree from the library, and I had Jackson do a quick narration (we’re not a strict Charlotte Mason house, but I do like practicing “tell it back” in a gentle way). We also talked through some reflection questions, and honestly, those little conversations are one of my favorite parts of homeschooling. After that, I shared what our super loose music appreciation looks like using The Good and the Beautiful app—I airplay it to the TV so both kids can watch, and it lined up perfectly with the medieval/renaissance time period we’ve been covering in history. Then we squeezed in a short Spanish lesson from Homeschool Languages (gentle expectations over here), sent the kids outside to burn energy, and moved into the other “part of homeschooling” that has to happen: chores. We tackled laundry, sheets, and a full bedroom reset (real life, unhinged energy and all), and I even prepped a little co-op printing for Five in a Row. We usually end with family read-aloud and prayers—because that’s our rhythm at home.
