About This Video

Rusty edges are one of those problems that’s totally fixable… but honestly, it’s way easier to prevent than to “repair” every time. In this video I break down why edges rust, what I do to avoid it, and the little habits that keep your boards (and especially splitboards) from coming home wet and angry. The big one for splitboarding: I disassemble the splitboard when I’m done and let everything dry properly—inside edges, clips, hardware, the whole deal. If you just toss it in the garage still assembled, you’re basically trapping moisture right where you don’t want it. Then I walk through a few simple ways to remove rust when it does happen. I show the three tools I reach for—gummi stone, aluminum oxide stone, and a coarse diamond stone—plus sandpaper as a budget option. They all work, but they do different jobs, and I explain what each one is best at so you’re not overdoing it and rounding your edge. I also share some DIY tool tips, and why diamond stones are my go-to for maintaining edges all season long. If you want the cleanest, most precise tune, I talk about why Sidecut tools are the high-quality option when you’re ready to level up.
