About This Video

My RV couch is about 8 years old (this is a 2014 Winnebago Minnie), and even though I’ve taken good care of the camper—kept it under roof in the off-season and stayed on top of service—the “leatherette” upholstery has started peeling badly. In this video I show you what that looks like up close, why trying to patch or paste the bad spots is a losing battle, and the three realistic paths I see for fixing it if you want your camper to keep looking decent. First, I demonstrate the quick-and-cheap cover-up method: using a lightweight comforter and tucking it in tight so it stays put. I explain how I center the pattern, pull it down to the floor line, and use a strip of wood (instead of foam) to help keep the seat area snug. Second, I talk through replacement couch options online (including Amazon and RecPro) and why that wasn’t a great fit for my situation—size constraints in the slide opening and the fact that the factory-made arms aren’t included. Finally, I show how I remove the couch and arms to take them to an upholsterer, using just a 1/2-inch socket and a square-head bit, and I walk through the basic fastener locations and steps to get it out.
