About This Video

Hi everyone, I’m JD from Willowbound Journals, and in this video I’m continuing my series of flip throughs of my filled-up personal journals—this time sharing my completed 2018 yearly journal. This one is made from a Bible cover (I went through a season of collecting different Bibles at Bible college), and it’s quite chunky with five signatures because it’s the first full year I documented from January through to the end of the year after discovering junk journals in August 2017. I used it as a memory keeping journal, so it’s packed with photos, packaging, craft bits, happy mail, and all the little “bits and pieces” I loved adding back then—pockets, flips, tags, and tuck-ins (even though my style is much more simple now and I don’t really do pockets anymore). As I flip through, I share the stories behind the pages: my ballet journey (including my first demi point shoes), getting into Daphne’s Diary and how meaningful that became, and the happy mail era—swaps from around the world and also the first “no swap, just kindness” happy mail that absolutely blew me away. I also talk about the junk journal community and how both the craft and the people genuinely helped my mental health during a season when I’d struggled with depression and anxiety. You’ll also see little milestones like when I learned to sew, when I started Willowbound Journals in 2018, and why the weeping willow (and that childhood willow tree) is the heart behind my logo and what I hope journaling can be for you: a safe place to be yourself.
