About This Video

Hi everyone, I’m JD from Willowbound Journals, and in this video I’m continuing my completed personal journal flip-through series—this time with my 2020 yearly junk journal. I made this one from a Little Golden Book and added my own chunky spine (six signatures), with “Prayers for Children” as the cover. I also show you the dangle I improvised with jewelry chain, including a faith pendant from a friend, a tarnished silver cross, and a few sentimental pieces I collected over the years (including my old uni dog tag with Philippians 2:7 engraved on the back). As I flip through, my goal is really just to take a trip down memory lane and notice how my style evolved. 2020 was a big year creatively—I did monthly journal prompts and made a kit to go with them—and you’ll see that reflected in how packed this journal is with printables, thrifted papers, packaging, happy mail, and little keepsakes. I talk about what I tend to save in yearly journals (cards, order packaging, gifts, and day-to-day bits), and I notice something interesting: compared to 2019, this journal is much more visual and decorative—more art scrapbook than writing. There are so many personal moments tucked in here too—Keanu featuring everywhere, memories like reading the Tomorrow series, my one-and-only diamond painting, and the 24-hour live “Dream Bank” fundraiser where we helped people with their dreams (and it even helped me get the iPad I still use to film and edit). I hope this flip through gives you ideas and inspiration for your own journaling—whether you’re memory keeping, art journaling, or doing a bit of both.
