In this video I’m installing a Rough Country high clearance front bumper on my cousin’s 3rd gen Tacoma, and I went in depth because the instructions aren’t super clear and there aren’t many solid install videos out there. I show you what comes in the kit we chose (we went with the wings option, around $1,500), plus the skid plate and the light bar setup. I also opted for the Rough Country Pro 12000 winch instead of the 9500—my thinking was simple: if we’re going to do it, might as well have the extra pull just in case. I walk you through the cutting and marking process (masking tape, using the factory creases as a guide, and why it’s smarter to cut less first and trim up later). Then we get into removing the factory pieces—crossmember trim clips, crash bar (14mm), tow hook cover and end pieces (17mm), and the factory skid plate (12mm). I also cover assembling the bumper: installing the 20-inch light bar (and the cover plate option if you skip the bar), mounting the winch and winch plate, and a big one the instructions didn’t mention—relocating the transcooler when running a winch. At the end, I show wing fitment tips, why we cut a little higher for a flush look, and how weather stripping cleans up the edge so it doesn’t look hacked up.
