What’s up you guys—today I’m breaking down the new wheel and tire setup I just installed on my Tacoma, plus the real reason I switched. I went with a full Rough Country combo: their Series 85 simulated beadlock wheels and their Rough Country Mud Terrain tires. I go over all the specs, what stood out to me right away, and the little details that matter—like Rough Country offering these mounted and balanced with TPMS if you order through their site. I still recommend getting them rebalanced just to be safe, because wheel weights can fall off during shipping. For the tires, I’m running a 35x12.50R17 (10-ply, Load Range E) Rough Country M/T. On the freeway they’re a bit louder than my previous Toyo Open Country RT hybrids, but that’s expected with a true mud terrain. For the wheels, I chose the Rough Country Series 85 in 17x9 with a -18 offset because I like the aggressive stance, and the gray/black combo matches my truck’s aesthetic perfectly. The big “why” behind the swap: my old setup was true beadlocks, and constantly re-torquing bolts got annoying—and in SoCal, true beadlocks on-road are illegal, so it was always in the back of my mind. This new setup is more of my on-road and mild off-road “pretty” setup, and I’ll keep the beadlocks at home for the harder rock-crawling days.
