Today was one of those real Alaska homestead days where the work doesn’t care what time it is. Joe had a full “peopleing” day in town—doctor follow-up, post office, all the errands—and he brought home a pallet of hay for the livestock. Once he pulled in, we got after it: lightening the load because our tractor won’t lift a full pallet of compressed bales (yes… our “girl tractor”), then hauling it to the barn and stacking it all up before the cold sets in. Winter chores don’t wait, and feeding animals through an Alaska winter takes planning, muscle, and a whole lot of teamwork. While we were home, we also did the normal mom-life stuff that keeps our days running—school check-ins, and then making our overnight oats (chocolate peanut butter and banana bread flavors). I love them because they’re quick, protein-packed, and the boys can grab breakfast without waiting. I also made more sprouts because fresh greens in Alaska—especially in winter—are gold, and growing them in your kitchen is almost too easy. We ended the day back on the barn build, with Joe modifying his catwalk so he can work up in the loft rafters. I’m not a heights girl, but I climbed up there anyway to show you what we’re doing—because this is the season of working into the night to keep the homestead moving.
