This week on the homestead was one of those “heat… heat” kind of weeks—projects everywhere, breakup season slush, and a big chapter closing. We kicked things off down in Joe’s mechanical room (aka the control room) dealing with our water storage tank. Our well is super silty, so our setup is a holding tank plus pumps, and let me tell you… when you look down in there and see the muck, the floaties, and the grime, it’ll make you want to clean it twice a year forever. We’ve got filters and a softener so we’re fine, but that algae/sulfur-not-farts smell was our sign it was time. In between chicken coop upgrades (Joe building a simple slider door and me reliving the “Parker the chicken murderer” story—still hurts my heart), spring break at our homeschool, and finally hanging the rest of the gym mirrors, we had the biggest news: we sold our Talkeetna “cabin castle.” Closing day was a mix of relief and emotion. We were willing to do the Airbnb thing, but with a three-hour round trip and Joe being the maintenance guy for everything, selling was always the goal—and we’re thankful it worked out with a sweet military family who’s going to love it. Now we can focus on our main cabin, the barn build, and getting that dock finished at the remote cabin.
