Morning. In this one I’m upgrading the garage lighting because the old fittings just weren’t cutting it. The customer wants the space as a proper little workshop, so we’ve gone a bit over the top on purpose—six 5ft single LED strip lights. First job was ripping out the old under-cab style lights and finding the junction point for the existing two-way switching, because that stays. While I’m there, I also show you the sort of “hidden nasties” you bump into on real jobs—like SY cable run outside in a way that just offends my eyes. Once the old gear was out, I measured and set the layout so everything lines through nicely, then mounted all six fittings and set them all to the cold/cool white setting (about 6000K) for maximum output. I run new 1.0mm² twin and earth, use the original cable as a draw wire where I can, and clip it all up neatly across the trusses. I also go over the plug-and-play links on these lights (yes, I’ve forgotten them before) and a quick tip on cable clips not always firing fully—give them a tap, pull it tight, job done. Doors down, moment of truth… and it’s plenty bright enough.
