Yo, morning. In this one I’m in a prefab garage/shed that’s been “powered” via a 13A plug top run down the fence line, and every time the customer plugs it in, it trips out. So I strip out the old crusty strip light and the bodged bits, then rebuild it as a cheap-but-decent setup that actually makes sense for how they’re going to use the space (freezer going here, so I move the switch so you can actually reach it). It’s not jazzy—just real-world installs, thinking on your feet, and getting it safe and usable. I run 2.5mm 3-core SWA clipped along the fence (no trench on this one), bring it into the building with storm glands (I just prefer them—neater and a better job), and make sure the armouring is properly earthed because otherwise the SWA is pointless. Inside, I mount a ply board carefully on the precast panels (don’t go drilling through and blowing the back out—proper no-no), fit a fused spur to drop the lighting feed down to a 5A, and install IP-rated lighting plus a couple of double sockets. I also show the consumer unit situation back at the house and flag up the little issues I’m not keen on (grommets/sealing, clamps not tight). Then it’s test, energise, tidy up, and crack on—until Steve has a drill-meets-heating-pipe moment and my day goes sideways.
