This one starts a bit different because I’ve not been very well. Dizziness, sickness, chest pains, pins and needles in my hands and head — the lot. My wife rang an ambulance and I ended up in A&E and intensive care while they tried to work out what’s going on, with more tests still to come (CT scan, heart checks, etc). And yeah, even sat there I’m saying, “I’m out in the morning, aren’t I? I’ve got concrete coming tomorrow.” That’s the tradesperson mentality, but it’s also stupid — you’ve got to look after yourself. Because I couldn’t be on site, Steve did the filming for concrete day on the rear extension/big build — 100mm insulation down, DPM in, then the slab pour. After that I get back in for what I can manage and rattle through some second-fix electrics in the downstairs loo/washing machine area: marking and drilling downlights with the laser, fitting JCC V50s (colour selectable), setting them to cool white, then doing a simple 1-gang switch with Wagos (773-102s), sleeving, and dressing it so it’s a tidy job. Big takeaway: being a contractor means the job doesn’t stop when you’re ill — so you need proper systems.
