About This Video

In this one I’m putting a division wall back where it used to be, because the client’s bought the house opened up and wants it back to two separate rooms. Steve’s on the studwork (400 centres, C24), and I’m dealing with the bits that always come with real houses—odd switching, messy previous work, and making sure we can actually live with the layout once the wall’s in. We reinstate the doorway, get the sole plates down onto concrete, and I show a couple of simple tricks that make framing easier when you’re not trying to be a hero. On the electrical side, I’m adding two double sockets (one each side of the new wall) and extending the existing ring properly using maintenance-free Wagos in a Wago box, kept in zone and ready to be boarded over. I also call out a metal switch with no earth flying lead despite an EICR being done—naughty, naughty, very naughty. We insulate the wall for sound deadening (horrible job, but it makes a massive difference), board both sides, cut in the dry liners, and finish off by ripping out and swapping door frames the sensible way—cut, bar in, and lever it out. No polish, no shortcuts—just the job as it happens.
