About This Video

In this tutorial I walk you through the basic setup of the Yamaha DGX 650 (and it also applies to other DGX models that share the same layout). I start from the most important thing—Voices—so you can quickly get playing. I show you the different ways I select sounds (scroll wheel, number entry like 001 for the Natural Grand, and the +/- buttons), how the Category buttons help you jump between groups like E.Piano and Organ, and how to get back home with Exit. Then I go into Main Voice controls like Main Volume and Main Octave, including how I reset parameters fast by pressing + and - together. Next I break down Dual and Split, because that’s where the keyboard starts sounding “bigger.” I layer a Dual voice (like strings or a pad), adjust Dual Volume and Dual Octave, then set up Split with its own volume, octave, and the Split Point so your left-hand zone lands exactly where you want. After that I explain Transpose in a simple way for singers and quick key changes, plus metronome/tempo and Tap Tempo for practice. Finally I cover Styles (previewing, Sync Start, Intro/Main/Outro, Accompaniment behavior tied to your Split Point, and Style Volume), Harmony for a richer lead sound, Song controls including A/B repeat, and how I record your performance to a User slot—both solo and with Styles—so you can save and play it back immediately.
