About This Video

In this second section of my Yamaha DGX 650 tutorial, I go past the basic stuff and show you the advanced setup I actually use when I’m trying to get the most out of this keyboard. I start with quick wins like the Demo button, Auto Power Off (so you don’t think your keyboard is “faulty” when it shuts down), and Portable Grand for jumping straight back to a clean piano sound. From there I show pitch bend, AUX input (and how to control the AUX-in level), and how Registration Memory/Bank saving lets you store up to 32 sound configurations so you can switch fast without scrolling. I also break down Music Database for one-touch sound/style matching, plus metronome time signature edits and turning the bell accent on/off (I personally leave the bell on). Then we get into Smart Chord—super useful if you don’t know left-hand chords yet—along with Harmony types (remember: harmony needs accompaniment running). I show Style Recommender, how to mute internal song tracks in Song Mode, and how to play audio loops from a USB flash while controlling audio volume. Finally, I cover underrated practice tools (lesson modes + grade feature), multi-track recording and layering (and the big limitation: you need to balance volumes before recording because you can’t fix it after), how to reset the keyboard, and my MIDI setup tips: install Yamaha’s USB-MIDI driver, keep Keyboard Out on, and use Local Off/PC2 mode when you don’t want the internal sound playing.
