About This Video

In this video, I walk you through a quick but in-depth way to set up basically any Yamaha Motif—XF, XS, ES, MOXF, even the older Classic. Once you understand this flow, you can operate any Motif without guessing. First, I show you the little “first-touch” stuff I always do: bring all sliders up and back down to reset volume control, center your knobs, and make sure your Master volume is actually up (because in Voice mode, those four sliders won’t affect anything—only the Master does). Then we get into what everybody really wants: layering voices in Performance mode. I create a blank template (init performance), load up to 4 parts, and show you how to change each part using Category Search—so you can build a real performance-ready stack like piano + pad + strings + bell. After that, I show you how to transpose from Utility > Keyboard, and how to rename and STORE your performance so it doesn’t disappear when you switch modes. I also touch on that “release” sound people hear a lot and why it happens—most times it’s the arpeggio being on—so I show you where to switch that off and how to reduce the release so the keyboard stops sounding like it’s “biting” each other.
