Easy to follow tutorial on Turning off the talkback voice assistant on Samsung devices. If your phone or tablet suddenly starts talking to you and explaining everything you touch on your screen then you have enabled talkback voice assistant. Press the volume up and volume down buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. If this doesn't work then you will have to follow the next steps. When the talkback voice assistant is on you will have to double-tap instead of single tap to open things. Firstly open up the settings app, to do this tap on settings one time, and then do a quick double-tap to open the settings. To scroll you need to use two fingers, so scroll with two fingers down to the accessibility settings. Tap on accessibility to select it, and then do a quick double-tap to open it. In the accessibility settings tap on ‘talkback’ and then double-tap it again. Tap the toggle in the top right once, and then double-tap it to switch off the voice assistant. Tap turn off on the popup and then double-tap it. The talkback voice assistant has now been switched off. If you would like to enable the shortcut, so that if you switch the talkback voice assistant on by mistake in the future it is easier to turn off, then tap on the toggle to the right of ‘talkback shortcut’, tap ‘allow’ on the popup and then tap ‘turn on’ on the next popup. Now if you ever switch on the talkback voice assistant by mistake you can simply hold down the volume up and volume down buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds and it will switch off. You can also switch it on in this way.

About This Video

In this video I show you how to turn off TalkBack Voice Assistant on a Samsung Galaxy if your phone suddenly starts talking to you and describing everything you touch. TalkBack is designed to help people with impaired vision, but if you turn it on by accident it can make your phone feel really awkward to use because taps and scrolling work differently. First, I try the quickest fix: if the TalkBack shortcut is enabled, you can press the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons at the same time for 3 seconds to toggle it off. If that doesn’t work, I walk you through doing it from Settings while TalkBack is active—so you’ll need to single-tap to select, then double-tap to open, and use two fingers to scroll. I go to Settings > Accessibility > TalkBack, then switch the toggle off and confirm “Turn off” on the popup. I also show how to enable the TalkBack shortcut afterward, so if you ever switch it on by mistake again, you can turn it off fast with the volume button shortcut.
