Follow the steps to learn how to compress a file on your Samsung Galaxy Device. The first thing to do is open up the ‘my files’ app in order to locate the file you wish to compress. Tap on internal storage, and then find the file within the internal storage. Hold down on the file to select it, if you want to select more than one file you can tap to select other files. When your file or files are selected, tap on the three dots ‘more’ button in the bottom right corner. Select ‘compress’ from the menu that appears. You can change the file name here if you like. Tap ‘compress’. The compressed file will be created and stored in the same place as the original non-zipped file. If you didn't change the file name, then it will have the original file name with .zip after it. To unzip a file, open up the zipped file, then tap ‘extract’. Tap ‘extract’ again on the popup. The file will be unzipped.

About This Video

In this video I show you exactly how to zip (compress) and unzip files on a Samsung Galaxy, using the built-in My Files app. Zipping a file basically compresses it, which is super handy if you’re trying to save storage space or you need to send a smaller file to someone. I keep it simple and step-by-step so you can follow along on any Galaxy device. First, I open My Files, go into Internal storage, and locate the file (or multiple files) I want to compress. Then I long-press to select it, tap the three dots “More” button in the bottom right, and choose Compress. You can rename the zip if you want, then tap Compress and it creates the .zip file right there in the same folder as the original. I also show you how to unzip: just open the zipped file, tap Extract, confirm Extract again, and your files are unzipped. That’s it—quick, built-in, and no extra apps needed.
