Upgrading the audio in a VW Beetle isn’t always as plug-and-play as some installs make it look. In this video, we install the Eonon VWX7 Android head unit into a VW Beetle A5, showing the real fitment issues and modifications you’ll likely face along the way. This isn’t a workshop install or a polished demo — it’s a real-world DIY upgrade, done honestly, step by step, so other Beetle owners know exactly what to expect. We cover what’s in the box, how the wiring connects, where things don’t quite line up inside the dash, and what we had to adjust to get the unit fitted properly and securely. If you’re considering a car audio upgrade for your Beetle and want to avoid surprises, this guide should help you decide whether the VWX7 is right for you. About This Video

In this video I’m in our newly purchased VW Beetle A5 and I’m swapping out the standard VW head unit for an Eonon VWX7 Android head unit. I’ve fitted Android units in loads of cars over the years, and I just prefer the features you get with Android (especially if you’re using things like Waze on road trips). This isn’t a polished workshop demo either — it’s a real DIY install, showing you exactly how I got the trims off, where the screws are hiding, how the connectors release, and why it can feel “almost impossible” the first time you unplug that main harness. The big takeaway: this Beetle install isn’t fully plug-and-play. The trim removal is genuinely one of the hardest I’ve done, and when it came to refitting, the bottom trim didn’t want to sit properly until I spotted the little raised sections on the bottom of the head unit. I ended up trimming a small amount off the rear of the dash trim so everything clipped back in nicely. I also show where I tucked the GPS puck (under a thin plastic section), why I always test DAB/FM/GPS before putting trims back, and I confirm the steering wheel controls worked without me doing anything extra.
