Discover the best way to see Pelourinho in a day! Join us for a Salvador Bahia, Brazil walking tour as we uncover the "Soul of Brazil" through a first-time lens. Welcome back to our Bahia adventure! On Day 3, we trade our VW van for the historic cobblestones of Salvador's Upper City. As part-time travelers, we wanted to see if this city truly is the rhythmic heart of the country. We’ve mapped out a custom walking route through the Pelourinho district to experience everything from golden churches to the famous "room of miracles." This isn't just a guide; it's our raw, first-time experience. We explore the deep history of resistance and faith that defines this region, proving you don't need to be a full-time nomad to find world-class culture. Stick around until the end to see how we managed when our tech failed—my phone went flat right in the middle of a gallery search! Missed our time in Brazil? About This Video

They call Salvador the soul of Brazil, and honestly… the second the drums start, you get it. In this video we swap our VW van for the cobblestones of Salvador’s Upper City and try to see Pelourinho (the Old Town) in about 4 hours. It’s our first time here, so this isn’t some polished “perfect day” itinerary—it’s us figuring it out in real time, with a simple mapped walking route and loads of little detours when something catches our eye. We start around the Church of Bonfim and the Room of Miracles, where people leave wax replicas (arms, legs, hearts—everything) as thanks for healing through prayer. We also talk about how strong the Catholic faith is in Brazil and how the famous “washing of the steps” festival blends Catholic and Afro-Brazilian traditions. From there we work our way through squares, churches, street music, and viewpoints—plus we try local snacks and a proper local beer because that’s half the point of being here. Along the way we share the very real budget-travel stuff: carry small change (photo hustles happen fast), wear sensible shoes on these streets, and learn basic Brazilian Portuguese because English isn’t widely spoken. And yes—our tech fails at the worst time, because of course it does.
