It was our very last morning in Las Vegas and, instead of one more wander around the Strip, we set a 4:30 AM alarm (okay… it was more like 5-ish) and headed out to hike Lone Mountain for sunrise. We grabbed an Uber from the Luxor to the car park we found via HikingGuy’s guide—about a 30–35 minute ride and roughly $30—then started the climb in the dark with torches on. This hike is short but it’s no joke. The trail gets steep fast, the rocks are sharp, and we were genuinely on all fours in places. The absolute lifesaver is that local hikers have painted arrows up the route—once you spot them, it’s much easier to stay on track. At the top, you get a full 360° view and an epic look straight over Las Vegas and the Strip as the sun comes up. It was bitterly cold, but honestly… pretty damn amazing. On the way down we took it slow because the stones feel like little marbles under your feet, and we also talked through the practical bits: gloves would’ve helped, solid shoes are a must, and getting an Uber back was actually fine (we got one in about 6 minutes). If we did Vegas again, we’d probably hire a car for a couple of days—cheap enough to make the off-Strip adventures way easier.
