Good morning from Las Vegas — in this one we do something properly exceptional: we book and ride in a fully driverless taxi (yes, nobody in the front). We use the Zoox/ZOX app, watch the little buggy come to us, then literally open the doors from our phone and hop in. Inside, it’s weirdly comfy — almost like being in a train carriage — with personal climate controls, charging points, and a screen showing ETA and ride info. And honestly? It felt safer and smoother than the two smoky, jerky taxis we had the night before. We chat through what we’re seeing and feeling in real time: the sensors and “domes” on the corners, how it anticipates braking, how it navigates around cars, and the emergency button/door releases that make it feel properly thought out. The ride was free while they’re trialling it, and we also learned it books up fast — we couldn’t get a second one. Crucially, I also show international visitors (especially Android users) how we actually installed the app when Google Play wouldn’t even show it for us without a US SIM.
