About This Video

That was pretty stupid of me: I cracked my iPad while filming B-roll and ended up getting a full AppleCare+ replacement. In this video I walk you through what I actually did before the appointment (including downgrading off iPadOS 26 beta, because diagnostics can get weird on betas), how I handled backups when I didn’t have enough space on my MacBook, and what the damage looked like (shattered corner + warped aluminum). Then I take you with me through the Apple Store visit and the replacement “unboxing” (spoiler: there’s basically no retail box). The whole thing took around 20 minutes, and the price difference is wild: $44 CAD with AppleCare+ vs $538 CAD without it. After a few days of using the replacement, my takeaway is simple: AppleCare+ is worth it if you’re prone to drops or you need your iPad for school and can’t afford downtime. Even though this was kind of an edge case for me (I’m usually using my iPad on a desk), having AppleCare+ as a safety net saved me a ton of money and stress.
