About This Video

In this video I unbox Apple’s latest (maybe not greatest) budget MacBook, the MacBook Neo—silver, absolute base model: 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, and yep… no Touch ID. I went with silver because it looks insanely clean, and the silver + white keyboard combo honestly gives me late-2000s/early-2010s white polycarbonate MacBook vibes. I walk through the hardware and what’s in the box (braided USB‑C cable, tiny 20W brick), plus some early thoughts on the build, ports, and that physical click trackpad I expected to hate… but actually ended up loving. After a couple hours of real use, my initial review is basically: this doesn’t feel cheap at all. The aluminum unibody, keyboard feel, and screen all feel modern and sharp to my eyes, even if it’s not “Pro” level. Performance is the big question since it’s running an A18 Pro (iPhone 16 Pro chip), but it’s full macOS and it runs surprisingly well—I edited part of this very video in Final Cut Pro, used Chrome, and even tried Cyberpunk (playable, but not exactly a great time). I do mention it gets warmer faster than my M1 MacBook Air and leans on swap with 8GB RAM, and my first battery numbers aren’t pretty—but I was doing heavy setup, downloads, gaming, and editing, so I’m saving the real verdict for a proper day-in-the-life battery test.
