🎣 GEAR WE USED IN THIS VIDEO (Amazon link) http://www.amazon.com/shop/floridafishingcouple This was one of those patch reef days in the Florida Keys where everything went right—at least on my side of the boat. In this episode, I head offshore with our friend Heiko from @SouthFloridaFishingChannel for a perfect-weather patch reef trip. While the fish didn’t cooperate equally for both of us, the action was absolutely nonstop for me. From hogfish and mutton snapper to porgies, yellowtail, and grouper, it turned into one of those days where every drop felt like it could be a keeper. Several big fish hit the box, and along the way I share exactly how I approach patch reef fishing, including why I don’t like using circle hooks, even though they’re extremely popular. It’s an honest, real-world conversation based on what’s worked for me over decades on the water, and I know it’ll spark some strong opinions in the comments. This video is packed with: Florida Keys patch reef fishing tactics Hogfish, snapper, porgy, and grouper action Catch-and-keep decisions explained A real discussion on circle hooks vs. J-hooks Nonstop catching on a calm, perfect Keys day Whether you’re planning a Keys trip, fishing patch reefs yourself, or just love seeing bent rods and real fishing conversations, this one delivers. 👇 Let us know in the comments: Are you Team Circle Hook or Team J-Hook? *Our AMAZON STORE* http://www.amazon.com/shop/floridafishingcouple (contains affiliate links) *EVERYTHING You Need* https://linktr.ee/floridafishingcouple ***Check out our gear*** https://floridafishingcouple.com/our-gear Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeUpU2Z6CahYWKUU7WcJztA/join NEW Florida Fishing Couple Merch is UP! About This Video

We headed offshore in the Florida Keys on one of those winter days where the rest of the country’s dealing with a storm… and I’m thinking about going fishing. It looked like it might be windy, but it laid down, and that set us up for straight-up patch reef fun with our buddy Heiko (Hikemeister) from South Florida Fishing Channel. We had shrimp, light rods, a little quarter-ounce jig, and we basically let the current do the work—pitch it out, let it drift past the boat, and hang on. On my side, it turned into nonstop action. We bounced between lane snapper, yellowtail, mangroves, porgies, and a couple muttons that were right on the line—one I let go because it was just barely 18. We even pulled a small black grouper up after a good scrap (and yeah, he wasn’t even close to legal). Along the way we talk keep vs. release, why I’ll toss back perfectly “keeper” yellowtail just for sportsmanship, and why I’m not a circle hook believer—because I watched one end up way down a mutton’s throat when it’s “supposed” to pin the corner. It was one of those patch days where every drop felt like it could be a box fish.
