About This Video

All right, YouTube family—this one was a true solo Florida Keys rollercoaster. The second I finally get a little time to sneak offshore, the weather wants to act up (like the rain gods are watching me). So I loaded the boat down for bear: cast net, sabikis, trolling rods, feathers, siki rigs, and even the deep drop setup—because you never know out here. First mission was bait, and when the sabiki wasn’t doing it, I went to the trusty cast net and loaded up on ballyhoo (plus a few bonus little bonitos that make killer bait). Once I got offshore, the radar finally did what it’s supposed to do and put me on birds. I circled up, got lines in, and it turned into absolute mahi pandemonium—double hookups, fish lit up like Christmas trees, and a whole school right at the transom. I show exactly how I rig ballyhoo “St. Lucia style” (weedless), including measuring the hook placement and why that rig runs clean even through a weed line. And just when I thought the day couldn’t give any more, I found tripletail stacked on buoys—got the bite on a tiny jig, landed the “big one”… and had to let him go at 17 inches (18" minimum). One inch shy… that’s what she said.
