Lobster Mini Season in Key West: Storms, Sharks, and the Coast Guard - TWICE

Follow Us (Capt Dan and Elizabeth) as we return to Key West for an exhilarating Lobster Mini Season adventure with our long-time friends, Jarrod, Melissa, and their daughters! 🦞 🗓️ Lobster Mini Season: Florida's 2023 lobster sport season, fondly known as "mini season," is a two-day extravaganza beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, and ending at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday. Our adventure kicked off on Monday as we left Key Largo and journeyed down the picturesque Overseas Highway to Key West, our cherished mini season lobster grounds. After arriving, we scouted potential spots and enjoyed a bit of fishing, where we encountered a Mahi Mahi that was unexpectedly cut in half by the tax man—yet, our excitement didn't wane, and we managed to catch the very shark responsible our Mahi damage! ⛈️ Battling Nature's Fury: On Tuesday, our scouting expedition continued, but the weather took an unexpected turn as storms rolled in, showering us with heavy rain throughout the night. We welcomed a 4:30 am wake-up call to venture out. As the sun rose, Mother Nature made her presence known as thunderstorms test our determination. We were greeted with a stunning lightning show on the water, adding an electrifying element to our journey. We were approached by the Coast Guard not once, but TWICE on Day 1, and finally called it a day when the storms started threatening again. 🦞 Lobster Clean and Cook: Once back at the dock, we share the proper technique of 'wringing' and cleaning lobsters.
