In this one I take you start-to-finish on how I fish the Florida Keys like a local—no fluff. I start at the dock showing you how I get Rec 90 fuel delivered straight to the house (I’m not carrying 10-gallon cans to fill a 200-gallon tank), then we roll offshore with a game plan: cobia on the jig, muttons on the bottom, and a little deep dropping to see what’s living down there. I walk through what I’m tying on, why I’m using it, and what I’m seeing on the machine when the bottom is just loaded. We get into real Keys fishing—hooking a short cobia on a jig, banging muttons the second the rig touches down, and dealing with the stuff people don’t talk about enough: barotrauma and etiquette. I show exactly how I use a descending device (16 oz minimum, barbless hook in the bottom lip) because reef fish deserve a real shot at swimming off. And I had a great conversation with a local captain about doing it the right way at a spot—pull up, introduce yourself, ask if it’s cool—because courtesy on the water matters.
