Capt. Dan and Heiko from South Florida Fishing Channel kick off the morning trolling for Wahoo off Key Largo — but the fish have other plans! While the Wahoo never show, the guys pivot and land two awesome Skipjack Tuna, which require an HMS permit to keep (and yes… Capt. Dan has one!). With the tuna bite slowing, they run offshore to the Islamorada Humps to do some deep dropping — and the action explodes. They load the boat with: ✅ Vermillion Snapper ✅ Tilefish ✅ Skipjack Tuna ✅ Kingfish …and even release more fish safely using a descending device. This episode is packed with real-world fishing knowledge: • How to troll properly for Wahoo • What rigs and lures they used for Tuna • How to deep drop at the Humps • How and when to use a descending device • What gear setup works best for multiple species It’s a perfect Florida Keys day on the water — a little trolling, a lot of deep dropping, great company, and non-stop catching. If you’re planning a fishing trip to the Florida Keys, or just love learning new offshore techniques, this episode checks all the boxes. 👉 Hit LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and Follow Us for more high-action fishing adventures! 👉 Drop a comment and tell us your favorite species to deep drop for! About This Video

It was o’dark 30 off Key Largo, I still had my morning raspy on, and the plan was simple: troll for wahoo (because you know me—early mornings are basically lobster and wahoo only). Heiko rolled up, we rigged a whole little arsenal—some ballyhoo on wire, some on mono, a big planer, a popper, and of course a feather—and joined what felt like the entire Keys fleet. Between the weeds, the grind, and one heartbreak hit I’m 100% sure was a wahoo (drag was just a touch too tight and it snapped), we had to remind ourselves: videos don’t always go “boom fish, boom fish.” When the wahoo plan didn’t happen, we pivoted like we always do. The feather saved the day and put two gorgeous skipjack tuna in the box—bled out and straight on ice—and I made sure our HMS permit was valid because if you’re keeping skipjack, you need it. Then we ran out toward the Islamorada Humps and got into deep dropping around 400+ feet. That’s where it turned into mayhem: chunky vermillion snapper, out-of-season blue line tiles going right back, and even a big surprise that got absolutely chomped before we could land it. We also showed exactly how I use a descending device—hook in the bottom lip, send them down, pull to release—so fish go back where they belong.
