About This Video

In this video I run through the best free plugins for 2025, but I’m not just listing links—I’m actually making a track with them so you can hear what they do in real life. I start with Noctua (Venus Theory) because it’s straight-up “insane cinematic synth” territory, and it instantly got me writing chords and building a vibe. Then I jump into Somerville Sounds Prototypes, which is basically a whole little instrument universe: drums, dusty pianos, affected guitars, and my personal favorite—the “Perfectly Imperfect” family choir (as a new dad, that one hits different). From there I add the Spectral Plugins cassette emulator (OCS-45) plus Spacer to get that warm, wobbly, lo-fi dimension. After that I mess with Vox Samples Pitchmunk (it’s basically the free Little AlterBoy vibe) to pitch/formant my vocals, and I widen everything with S Doubler. When I get stuck, I use the Eno “anti-AI” inspiration tool that gives unpredictable prompts—honestly, it helped me surprise myself and push the arrangement. Then I go full chaos with the Doom compressor (yes, Doom like the game) to turn “silence” into terrifying noise percussion, clean up clashes using The Masker (a cheat code for carving frequencies), and finish with Black Keys 3 Light for sampled vintage synth sounds that are ridiculously good for free.
