About This Video

In this video I’m basically pushing back on the doom-and-gloom take that “AI is the death of music.” I asked my community (over 400,000 of you) what you think happens when AI gets as good as humans at making songs, and most people said it kills music and the industry. I think that’s the wrong framing. AI getting good at generating songs isn’t a creative problem—it’s a money problem. People don’t make music because there’s a shortage of songs in the world; they make music because it’s a primal human need, like a language or a coping mechanism. Then I zoom out and talk about what I think is actually going to change: the business model. Streaming platforms will drift into “new radio” territory—safe, disposable, hyper-personalized background music, possibly generated on the spot for your run, your mood, your day. And that’s exactly why real artists won’t want to compete there. My optimistic prediction is that AI will push artists and fans back toward direct support—no gatekeepers, no algorithm deciding what’s worthy—just people backing the process, the person, and the weird, honest, experimental music that happens when you’re finally free to make what you actually want.
