About This Video

This song has over 300 million plays on Spotify, it’s been blowing up everywhere, and somehow I’d never heard it. So I did the only reasonable thing: I tried to remake “Sports Car” by Tate McRae without ever listening to the original. Pep (my editor) picked the song, I put 2 hours on the clock, and I started building a track purely off vibes—like a weird Radiohead-ish piano idea that I never use because it feels a little out of tune… which honestly made it better for this. From there I layered keys, grabbed a drum loop to lock in a groove, and followed that moment where it “clicks” in my head—because if you can’t hear it, you can’t make it. I switched chords to make it feel happier, added bass, then pivoted to an 808 for the chorus to push it more electronic. I even started hearing a siren texture, processed it with ShaperBox and Portal, and then made the whole thing heavier with ghost notes and velocity tweaks. At the end, I finally compared my remake to the real song. Was I close? 0%. But vibe-wise, I feel like I actually got kind of close—and the best part is my version ended up being one of my favorites in the series.
