I don’t know if you agree, but “Thick of It” by KSI has to be the most hated song of 2024… so I did the obvious thing: I tried to fix it. The challenge rules were simple (and painful): I downloaded the a cappella, dragged the vocals into Ableton, and gave myself two hours to recreate all the music from scratch. No cheating—just KSI’s vocals and a blank session, then I build a whole new world underneath it. I started by actually listening to the vocals for a solid chunk with no beat, just to catch the vibe—honestly it was giving me emo rock / alternative energy. From there I built a groove with a quick drum loop, laid down bass, and then started doing hard switch-ups: trap drums for the intro/chorus, then a full-on rock alternative section with epic chords and a big buildup. I pulled out one of my favorite plugins (Archetype: Tim Henson), recorded guitar ideas, and then literally chopped every note because I’m not good enough to play it clean—so I made it sound cool on purpose. Then I decided to take it even further and try a metal section with a borrowed seven-string (my dad’s a metalhead, so yes, I robbed his guitar). I finished the arrangement, exported it, and even DM’d it to KSI. He didn’t respond… but the track came out wild, and that was the whole point.
