In this blind revisit, I (Matt) picked a bottle, hid it from Gio, and we tasted it with zero labels and zero bias. On the nose, we were both surprised right away—there was this fresh “after rain” vibe, plus licorice, butter (yes, butter), milk chocolate, and even a little banana and maraschino cherry. The big takeaway on the nose was that it was just plain pleasant—nothing screaming at us, but definitely something we’d come back to and keep smelling. Once we got into the taste, it clicked a lot more. The front end drank super light, but it brought a nice sweetness and a creamy texture—like peppermint candy starting to melt—mixed with butterscotch. We also got this smoky-ish note that wasn’t really peat, but kind of “peaty-adjacent,” and the finish leaned warmer and a little sharp if you swallowed fast, without leaving a huge lingering aftertaste. When we revealed it as Starward Two-Fold Australian Whisky, it was a fun reminder of how knowing the bottle can change what you go hunting for (I remembered getting “Milky Way bar” the first time). We scored it by our usual system (nose /3, taste /5, finish /2) and added it to our 2025 infinity bottle.
