How to fix a loose cap on a Lamy Safari Fountain Pen

The Lamy Safari is known for being a reliable and durable every day carry fountain pen, and it is. Yet on two of my Safari fountain pens, the snap cap closure has become loose. I reached out to the pen community on Facebook, and I learned this weird little trick. I don't really understand why it works, but so far it has worked like a charm.
