In this video I’m doing a real-world review of the Shearwater Peregrine TX after taking it to Komodo, Indonesia and putting about 35 logged dives on it. This is basically “part two” because I reviewed the original Peregrine back in 2020, and most of that still holds true here. I’m not here to read specs off a website—if you’re watching this, you’re already considering buying one—so I’m focusing on what it’s like to actually dive, day after day, on a trip. I break it into three parts: what I love, what I think could be improved, and who it’s for. The big TX upgrades are the compass and air integration, and Shearwater’s compass and AI are genuinely best-in-market: rock solid connectivity, strong transmitters, and a tilt-adjusted digital compass that I trust. I’m also very impressed with the battery life and fast charging—I got a full week of diving without needing to top it up—plus the big, clear, readable screen and simple two-button menu. On the improvement side, the strap options aren’t as slick as the Teric/“Tern” TX system, and the flat charging plate still isn’t something you can use on the move. And just to be crystal clear because I know I’ll get the email: no, you can’t use the Peregrine TX for technical diving.
