In this video I put the Dive Rite CX3 through a proper Divers Ready gear review: I took it in the water, used it thoroughly, and even taught an Advanced recreational class using only this light. I’m comparing it directly to the older CX2 (which I previously called a “lightsaber for scuba”), and I’m focusing on what actually matters to divers: size, burn time, brightness, charging, and real-world usability as either a primary or a backup. The CX3 is a serious upgrade. It’s about an inch shorter than the CX2, uses the same battery, yet it’s brighter (1900 lumens vs 1700) and I’m seeing 3 hours plus on high in actual use. The magnetic charging port is a big win for convenience and for reducing the chance of pinching an O-ring, while still letting you open the light if you ever need to replace the battery—best of both worlds. I also talk about what I’d change: the finish patina/discoloration, the small machining ridge that can trap salt (salt bad), and the fact I generally prefer a locking switch for travel.
